New challenges for off-highway diesel engines

The reduction of pollutants and especially particulate matter for non-road engines is an important topic which governmental authorities are focusing on all over the world. As a matter of fact CO2 emissions and toxic exhaust gas, such as nano particulates are to be reduced.

In order to face future regulations of the EU technological standards exhaust aftertreatment and in engine emission control for off-highway engines needs to be improved. Off-highway engines need extremely flexible engine architectures to be suitable for large width of different application in terms of design, operational conditions and duty cycles. Additionally new ways and approaches will have to be found in combination with advanced technologies such as 2-stage turbocharging and direct injection.
